Control YouTube, Pandora, Grooveshark & Netflix in Chrome

December 21, 2012

Happy Holidays to everyone from Flutter!

We are so excited and pleased to release a new version that allows you to control music & videos in Google Chrome using gestures — just in time for the holiday season. Flutter now supports YouTube, Pandora, Grooveshark & Netflix.

This version has been in the works for long. In fact, we originally conceived the Flutter idea to control Netflix while watching movies on a laptop from the comfort of our couch. However, as we built support for Netflix and YouTube, the music use case grew upon us. Also we realized that asking users to install an application as well as a browser extension was complicated for the first iteration of the product. Hence we paused on this feature, and built a simple standalone Flutter app for music & videos for iTunes, Spotify, VLC, QuickTime and Windows Media Player to name a few.

This new version is (in some sense) going back to our roots. The installation process is very simple: the new Flutter app automatically opens the Flutter extension url at the end of the tutorial. Simply clicking “Add to Chrome” allows you to enjoy songs, movies and more using gesture control within your browser.

We added more UI changes and applications. This new version also supports Powerpoint and Keynote. Now a click on the Flutter icon allows easy camera on/off. You can access the Flutter menu using “ctrl-click” (Mac) or “right-click” (Windows). Moreover, as we added support for more applications, we realized that everyone has their preferred music/video app or website. You can now mark that preference using the “Preferred App” Flutter menu. For example, if you mark Spotify as preferred app while creating a Keynote, as long as Spotify is running, Flutter will control Spotify playlist even if you are focused on Keynote.

We will be updating AppStore version in early 2013. For now direct download the new version.

Thanks again for the wonderful feedback, ratings & the support you all have provided. Keep them coming.

Have a wonderful Flutterific Holiday and enjoy the magic

Phew, finally a room to breathe

This blog—actually, this entire redesign—has been a long time coming. It’s great to finally be able to talk to you guys in more than 140 characters!

First of all, we want to thank all of you for using Flutter and for your amazing feedback. Your phenomenal responses and just the sheer number of enthusiastic emails you’ve sent us make us very confident about Flutter and where it’s headed. So, thank you everyone.

Speaking of our app, we are really working hard developing new features for it so keep posted! You can follow us here and on Twitter to stay up-to-date on our progress. For Mac users, you can download Flutter from the Mac App Store to make updating fast and painless. Also, it’d be great if you can leave reviews on the App Store—we read every single one of your reviews so it’s a great way for you to communicate how you think we can improve Flutter.

Even when we started working on redesigning our website and ultimately, our brand, the first place we went to was our inbox to re-read thousands of emails you’ve sent us. There were so many emails talking about how Flutter made you feel like a Jedi or some superhero, so we decided to pursue that line of thinking. We are so excited to finally show off our new look and feel to you. Please tell us what you think! And yes, we are working to make the app better looking and more functional as well. After all, that’s what matters the most.

Again, thank you so much for your love. It literally means everything to us.
